With Germany having won the 2014 World Cup, it is a good time to think about a Berlin city break and we have brought you our top 3 things to do in the capital of Germany.

1. Brandenburg Gate
Believe it or not, Brandenburg Gate dates back to 1791 and is Berlin's most famous symbol in the city.  Modelled on the Acropolis in Athens, the structure was designed by Carl Gotthard Langhans and built between 1788 and 1791 although the final touches were not completed until 1795.  Atop the structure is the famous sculpture of a chariot drawn by 4 horses. 

The Gate has been witness to many historical events and military parades and stood watch over the dividing wall until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

2.  Tiergarten
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you will find the Tiergarten which is the largest park in Berlin.  The garden was once a hunting reserve and only turned into a garden in the 1830s with an avenue lined with statues of Germany's rulers and statesmen.  World War II inflicted damage on the garden including the destruction of the avenue although it was full restored and the statues replaced by those of famous national celebrities including Wagner.

3. Park Sanssouci
This is Berlin's, and Europe's, largest complex of palaces and pavilions.  The park is made up of small gardens from different eras around which you walk and discover lots of buildings around its perimeter. 

You will come across buildings such as Neues Palais, an imposing Baroque palace decorated with hundreds of sculptures and comprising around 200 rooms over 2 floors with one of the most unusual rooms being the Grottensaal [Grotto Salaon] where man-made stalactites hang from the ceiling.

Schloss Charottehof has the Tent Room which resembles a marquee and the remainder of the interior is the most richly decorated in Berlin.  There's lots of artwork, furniture and porcelain on display.

With at least another 8 buildings to view, you could spend the whole day looking round Park Sanssouci.
